DIY Friendship Bracelets On Friendship Day
I loved making these. Obsessed with everything that takes me back to the 80s and 90s. Growing up, I spent countless hours making colourful friendship bracelets. I loved trading them and making them with friends, for friends and I always had a few tied around my wrist.
I must confess that I have an OCD personality…especially when it comes to art. I love repetitive actions, strokes, patterns – it’s very calming and therapeutic. I found an easy-to-understand tutorial for a cool friendship bracelet pattern and decided to make it so I could relive my pre-teens by trying every kind of bracelet pattern there is including chevron, moustache, rainbow, heart and more. I made one…and then two…and then ten. And, it became my life for a while. I must have made atleast 30 of them and considering each one takes a few hours to finish, I was holed up in the house for days on end. Warning : The world of compulsive friendship bracelet making is one of meditation, silence and solitude. Also, highly addictive I might add.
According to tradition, one ties a bracelet onto the wrist of a friend who may wish for something at that moment. The bracelet should be worn until it is totally worn out and falls off by itself, at which moment the wish is supposed to come true.
I found all the amazing patterns at friendship-bracelets.net. And, this tutorial really helped refresh my memory : https://www.purlsoho.com/create/2011/07/10/mollys-sketchbook-friendship-bracelets/
Happy Friendship Day! I feel very grateful to have the friends I do.
