Making of ‘Lend Your Ear’ – Public Art Installation

Lend Your Ear – my public art installation/ campaign is directed at Parents and families as Parents have an essential influence in helping their children grow up happy and learn how to manage difficult life situations.

The goal of this art for a cause installation commissioned by VR Bengaluru on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which falls on 26th June is to raise awareness about listening to children and young people as the first step to help them grow up healthy, safe and drug-free. The installation aims to promote active listening. The parents are invited to follow 4 specific recommendations : 1. Pay attention 2. Praise your child 3. Set clear rules 4. Ask questions

The global “Listen First” campaign was initially launched in New York in April 2016 at a special event during the United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on the world drug problem. The campaign aims to promote science-based initiatives to prevent addiction, while insisting on a very simple concept: at the core of these initiatives lies something we all know how to do, but perhaps spend too little time doing: listening.

I also hosted a Creation Station on 23rd & 24th June at VR Bengaluru where little kids were invited to create art and craft that convey the importance of listening to parents. The theme of this activity was ‘Listen First’.

I whole-heartedly thank all the parents who were so receptive to the idea and all the kiddos who made the day so special with their creativity. I urge you to share these messages with your networks.

There were 3 special prizes for 3 lucky children who were part of the Creation Station and it was announced on 27th June, 2018.
