The Oscar Awards 2018 awards just concluded early this morning (India time) but I haven’t seen the results yet cos I want to watch it later today. No spoilers please. It’s the one event I look forward to every year – and I make sure I’ve watched most if not all the movies that are vying for an award. And it never disappoints!
I love dramas and I’m not particularly fond of horror as a genre but ‘Get Out’ changed my mind about that this year. In the language of Bollywood, it’s truly Hatke. Among my other favorites are the three foreign films that are nominated – ‘On Body And Soul’, ‘Loveless’ and ‘The Square’ – all sensitive, contemplative and cinematic genius at play.
I’m still listening to the haunting soundtrack of ‘The Shape of Water’, it stayed with me because of Del Toro’s beautiful portrayal of mundane lives more than anything else. Let’s admit it, our lives are mundane, we don’t even have a soundtrack and forget seeing the beauty, it’s hard for many of us to look away from our phones.
I also love a good laugh and highly recommend watching ‘The Disaster Artist’, but only after seeing the mother movie that it’s based on – ‘The Room’. It’s funny, hilarious, complex, simple, light, tragic, life-like, deep, shallow and so many other things all at once. I love James Franco still, despite the scandal and all. And you too Kevin Spacey – if you are asking.
‘Loving Vincent’ was lovely – and now I have this wish to put sunflowers in a vase and/or move to Netherlands.
So, all of these 16 movies are totally worth your time and money. You can catch many of these at the PVR Oscar Film festival which is on till 15th March,2018. And, do play their Oscars trivia quiz, I did and now waiting to win my grand prize. Details in this link: https://www.pvrcinemas.com/oscars
Next movie on my watchlist? ‘Black Panther’ ofcourse.
